Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures is an adventure game created by Telltale Games. It is a four part episodic series that was released throughout the summer of 2009. The game was the first adventure game by Telltale Games to use a direct control method of controlling the character. Telltale switched to a direct control method so that they could utilize cinematic framing of shots, which was not possible with a standard point-and-click mouse interface. The control method and cinematic framing introduced in this game would also be used in Tales of Monkey Island.
The game is based on the popular Wallace & Gromit stop animation cartoon films by Aardman Animations. Each episode of the game is set up to closely resemble the Wallace & Gromit short films. The 3D character models were created to look like plasticine models, right down to the fingerprint smudges on the bodies of the characters.
References in Monkey Island
There is an injoke in Tales of Monkey Island which is tied to this game:
- In Launch of the Screaming Narwhal when Guybrush says the word cheese, he places his arms up towards his chest with his hands close to each other and shakes them excitedly just like Wallace.
Differences from Tales of Monkey Island
The games use the same interface, but one control option was added for Tales of Monkey Island that was not available in Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures.
Guybrush can be controlled completely by the mouse by dragging him around the screen.
