Loom
From Monkey Island wiki
Loom (alternatively LOOM) is a 1990 fantasy adventure game by text-adventure veteran Brian Moriarty (formerly of Infocom) and released by LucasArts. Several references to Loom and its central protagonist, Bobbin Threadbare, are scattered across the games.
References in the Monkey Island series
- A character named Cobb can be found in the Scumm Bar in The Secret of Monkey Island. He wears a pirate hat with a button that reads "Ask me about LOOM". If asked, he describes the game with much enthusiasm.
- The same game also features the seagull from Loom, which would return in LeChuck's Revenge.
- When the Fettucini Brothers launch Guybrush out of a cannon, one of his dazed dialogue options is "I'm Bobbin, are you my mother?". The Brothers take as a sign that he's okay.
- When Guybrush first meets Meathook he can say "I'm Bobbin Threadbare. Are you my mother?" to which Meathook responds, "No, your mother was a duck." In Loom, Bobbin's mother was turned into a swan.
- In The Curse of Monkey Island Guybrush laments on that turning Elaine back from having become a gold statue will be difficult. The Voodoo Lady replies: "Be glad she wasn't turned into a swan." This is another reference to Bobbin's mother.
- In the same game, Guybrush tries to dissuade LeChuck from killing him with the excuse that he'll (LeChuck) become a forgotten video game character. LeChuck says it's impossible and that everyone will remember him. However, Guybrush simply replies "Bobbin Threadbare", to which LeChuck says "Who?" and Guybrush says "Exactly".
- In Act III of Escape from Monkey Island, when Guybrush enters the lava plunge he says, "Loom. Loooooom... What kind of name is LOOM?"
