The Flotsam Island Courthouse is a location on Flotsam Island, which is located in the Gulf of Melange.

The courthouse is presided over by pirate judge Wallace Grindstump, who has locked up the courthouse and taken a long-delayed three-month summer vacation/sabbatical (owing to the unprecedented downturn in criminal activity on Flotsam Island) when Guybrush Threepwood first comes to Flotsam; but has been recalled early to preside over court in face of Guybrush's several charges. Killick Hardtack works as bailiff, chef, and jailkeeper. With Guybrush representing himself, the only professional lawyer known to have worked in the courthouse is Stan, who simultaneously represents Hemlock McGee, Bosun Krebbs, Joaquin D'Oro, Bailiff Hardtack (all in cases against Guybrush) and the Porcelain Power Pirates Corporation (in a case against D'Oro), and who later takes on the Voodoo Lady and LeChuck as his clients.

The courthouse is affiliated with the Flotsam Island Jail. Judge Grindstump claims to hear only cases where all parties are pirates, leaving him unable to help Guybrush implicate the Marquis De Singe (a mad scientist) in the murder of Morgan LeFlay (a pirate hunter). (Strangely, he has no qualms over prosecuting the Voodoo Lady.)

Trivia

  • The flag at the top of the courthouse reads, in butchered German, "Die Luf[t] der Flotsam saugen" ("The wind of Flotsam sucks"), which is a parody of the Stanford flag motto, "Die Luft der Freiheit weft" ("The wind of freedom is blowing"). However, the word "Luft" (whose "t" is missing) is German for "air"; the word "der" is German for "the"; the word "saugen" is German for "to suck"; and the word "von", German for "of", is missing. Therefore, a more appropriate German sentence for "The wind of Flotsam sucks" would be "Der Wind von Flotsam saugt."
  • The banner inside the courthouse reads "Sword of Lustitia". The word "Lustitia" is actually a parody/amalgam of the English word "lust" and the Latin word "iustitia", meaning "justice", also named for Lady Justice, the Roman goddess of justice, equivalent to the Greek goddess Dike, daughter of the goddess Themis.
  • In the PS3 version of Chapter 4, Guybrush can call himself to the stand and choose all three ways to make Judge Grindstump mad in order to earn the "Idiot for a Client" bronze trophy in the "PlayStation Network Trophy Achievements"; and if he manages to clear all civil and criminal charges against him (the latter with help from LeChuck, of course), the two silver trophy rewards are "Ayyyye, the Jury" (a spoof on the words "We, the Jury...") and "Use the Source" (the second one, not to be confused with the first one in Chapter 1, though both trophies are possibly a spoof of the "Use the Force" quote from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope).
