Dave Grossman is a video game programmer and designer who is currently employed at Telltale Games and is one of the co-creators of the Monkey Island series alongside Ron Gilbert and Tim Schafer. Whilst working at LucasArts he worked on The Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge and Day of the Tentacle.

Game Industry

After having just dropped out of graduate school where he had been studying artificial intelligence, Grossman joined LucasArts in 1989 as an "assistant designer/programmer".[1] The first game he worked on was The Secret of Monkey Island with Ron Gilbert, which he helped write and program. He was also the co-writer for the sequel, LeChuck's Revenge, before becoming the project leader for Day of the Tentacle.

In 1994 however Dave Grossman quit LucasArts in order to concentrate on the writing of games, and so became a freelance writer.[2] At the time Ron Gilbert had formed Humongous Entertainment, which created games for children. Grossman is credited for having worked on many of these games, including the Pajama Sam series. Grossman also worked on Freddi Fish 4: The Case of the Hogfish Rustlers of Briny Gulch.

Grossman has since joined Telltale Games and is currently the Senior Designer there. He has worked on the Bone series, Sam and Max: Season One, Sam and Max: Season Two, Wallace and Gromit's Grand Adventures and Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People. On June 1st 2009 Telltale announced a new episodic game series, Tales of Monkey Island. Dave Grossman worked as a Design Director for this series.[3]

IGN recently listed him as one of the most recognisable game designers of all time.[4]

Other Work

Aside from his work in the game industry, Grossman has also worked on a number of books. Three of these books are based on games he worked on at Humongous Entertainment: Freddi Fish: The Big Froople Match, Pajama Sam: Mission to the Moon and Freddi Fish: The Missing Letters Mystery.

Grossman has also worked for Fisher-Price and Nickelodeon and has created two interactive books, SpongeBob SquarePants: Sleepy Time and Fairly OddParents: Squawkers.

He is also the author of a book of poems, Ode to the Stuff in the Sink: A Book of Guy Poetry, which he self-pushlished in 2002; it contains poems on different aspects of men's life.
